Hold a Bike Drive

Bike drives are a fun and easy way to help out in the community.

Whether you are scout group, a church congregation, or a business looking to play an active role in the community, holding a bike drive is a great way to give back to the Spartanburg community.

Hub Cycle, a program of Partners for Active Living that is designed to increase the availability of and access to bicycles in Spartanburg, is always in need of more bicycles to meet our ever-increasing demand.

A typical bike drive will require the following:

  • A week prior to the drive, flyers must be distributed to your target area.  This can be within a congregation, schools, surrounding neighborhoods, and/or local business. Receiving media attention is also a helpful tool.
  • Location(s) for the drop-off must also be secured.  Possible areas include churches, parking lots, or shelters.  Also, if you are willing to pick up donations from individuals or groups, make that known on the flyers.
  • Trucks and/or trailors - renting or borrowing these for transportation of the donated bikes is the best way to go.
  • Make sure that everyone in your organization is on the same page.  A bike drive requires that everyone know what their role is in order for the drive to be a smooth ride. Make sure everyone knows when to pass out flyers, where to pass them out, and times to be available for the bike drop-offs and pick-ups.
