Recommended Physical Activity

"Adults should engage in moderate-intensity physical activites for at least 30 minutes on 5 or more days of the week."
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/American College of Sports Medicine

"Adolescents should engage in three or more sessions per week of activities that last 20 minutes or more at a time that require moderate to vigorous levels of exertion."

"Elementary school-aged children should accumulate at least 30 to 60 minutes of age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate physical activity from a variety of activities on all, or most, days of the week."
CDC Nutrition & Phisical Activity on the web.

And the good news is!  It's never too late to start.  No matter your age or activity level, research shows that starting a more active lifestyle now can make you healthier and improve your quality of life.

Regular physical activity significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and related risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Moderate intensity physical activity includes recreational activities such as biking, jogging or swimming, and it can also be achieved through daily lifestyle activities such as gardening, climbing stairs or walking to and from work and school. This type of moderate activity is more readily adopted and the benefits are similar whether the recommended 30 minutes are achieved all at once or are accumulated throughout the day.
