Over our decade of community advocacy, Partners for Active Living has approached fulfilling our mission through what we call the four theoretical P’s: places to be active, programs that encourage activity, policy changes to sustain improvement, and partnerships to ensure collaboration.

The first P is places to be active. We have learned that we can encourage the community to be active and walk but if they don’t have a sidewalk or trail to walk on, then that activity is not safe or sustainable. Therefore, part of our work includes advocating for safe places to be active.

Over time that has meant sidewalks, bicycle lanes, curb ramps, slower traffic speeds near playgrounds, and much more. Through our strategic plan, we have decided to focus on new trail development and improved playgrounds.
