A few of our successes in 2011 that will impact the health of the Spartanburg community:
Secured an ACHIEVE grant to develop an action plan for childhood obesity prevention in Spartanburg County.
Loaned 193 bicycles in 2011, which means more bicycles on the road and more physical activity.
Offered more than 75 community walks and bicycle rides in 2011.
Launched the Southeast's first bicycle sharing program, Spartanburg B-cycle.
Inspired 137 elementary school girls to be healthier and live more active lives through our Girls on the Run initiative.
Worked with the City of Spartanburg to create a Council endorsed Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee.
Assisted the City of Spartanburg in securing SPATS funding for a redesigned West Main Street, which will include bicycle lanes, lighting, on street parking and other improvements.
Created the Friends of the MBF Rail Trail group and worked with community partners on getting a water fountain, pet clean up stations and information holders on the trail.
Partnered with residents of the Northside of the City, the City of Spartanburg and Mary Black Foundation to improve access to Chapel Street Park by slowing traffic in the surrounding area.
