City inks development agreement for 320 apartments, help with trail network in Drayton

The Spartanburg City Council unanimously approved a development agreement Monday that clears the way for construction of a new 320-unit apartment complex across from the former Drayton Mills site and helps a nonprofit flesh out its vision for a not-yet-completed trail network.

Extending the Mary Black Rail Trail: Eight years in the making, work could finally begin soon

Efforts to extend the popular Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail .67 miles along Kennedy Street and Converse Street to downtown’s Barnet Park began in 2012. And while the city has acquired several slivers of land throughout the planned route, and has $1.2 million in funding ready to allocate, construction has yet to begin.

Vic Bailey Subaru Bike Park opens off Mary Black Trail in Spartanburg

September 3rd 2020

PAL held a ribbon cutting at the Vic Bailey Subaru Bike Park on Sept. 3, 2020. The park is located off the Mary Black Rail Trail along Old Glendale Road and behind the Flock Shop in Spartanburg. The ribbon cutting was followed by a riding demonstration. Here, Michael Kane of Ride Garden LLC, who help build the bike park, takes a ride.

Guest Opinion: Federal BUILD grant would bolster trails, economic development

Number of new manufacturing jobs, number of total new jobs, amount of total new investment, amount of international investment, amount of exports — we have ranked either at or near the top in all those and other categories for years.
